Most people detox for various reasons. The fact is, you end up with clearer, radiant skin, strong, shiny hair and of course shed a good number of pounds or kilograms along the way. That, however is possible only if you choose a detox diet that's most suitable for you.

Detoxification is recommended for anyone with:

  5. Bad timing

  6. Best detox diets may tire your body a bit, in your first few days. It is therefore advisable to choose a good time to start a detox diet. This is missing piece of the puzzle that fails most detox diet plans.

There are different types of detox plans, such as juice fasting for three days, 21 days, no wheat and sugar and 2 weeks lemon juice diets with specific combinations like maple syrup or cayenne pepper.

2 day, 30 day or 7 day detox diet plan?

I've done some research, read some books and spoke with with many professionals. All detox plans have own pluses and minuses. Many people find 30 days is way too long, 14 days also seems a bit longer to detox for many, seven days is a wonderful fit for most people as 3 days may be too short to see significant results.

The 7-day detox diets are generally based on a food diet, the amount is not limited, but the kind of stuff that you can eat/drink follows a list.

As the title of this post says, we will deal with 7 day program here.

If you select the most suitable detox diet, within a week you will be amazed at the energy and rejuvenation that you feel, apart from the lightness of lost pounds!

Warning: do not start a detox if you are pregnant or nursing, underweight or have against the advice of your doctor.

Before you detox

Plan your the detox diet in a week that you're not so busy. When I started with detox, I had planned it in a week when I wasn't required to work hardest.

During the detox diet week, specially in the first two days, you must closely listen to your body. Plan not to have too many social engagements. Dinner with friends is obviously harmful to your detox :-)

Prepare yourself well for detox in advance. Make sure your cabinets are as empty as possible in terms of "unhealthy" products. Make sure in any case that you stay away from sugar, gluten, dairy, processed food and meat products. That helps!

Get all the ingredients for the first few days available at home, preferably from an organic shop.

What food you eat during your detox period?

You are gonna eat special detox meals, salads, (drink) smoothies and eat detox snacks during your 7 days of body cleansing. As a drink you will mostly have fruit infused detox water, preferably replacing water with it (it is tastier than plain water, actually).

All those items are specifically made of:

Fruits: apples, bananas, pears, oranges, grapefruit, grapes, pineapple, mango, kiwi, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, nectarines, peaches, melons.

Vegetables: carrots, onions, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, mushrooms, corn, leeks, zucchini, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, cucumbers, onions, beans and lentils

Fresh fish (vegans can stick to veg alternatives above): trout, haddock, mullet, lemon sole, monkfish, swordfish, etc.

Unsalted nuts and seeds: peanuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, pecans, pine nuts, pistachios, walnuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. Popcorn can also, without salt.

Extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar, black pepper and raw honey

How much weight can I lose with a detox diet?

Ok, I will give a straight answer to that one but a caution - you have to follow the diet with discipline and motivation. Most people lose anywhere from 5 lbs to 15 lbs in one detox week.

However, there are people who go that extra mile to lose to the tune of 20 to 25 lbs of fat in that week. Don't worry, I'll show you how and for free! Stay with me on this.
